Director Style
Subject Matter/ Genre:
Steven Spielberg has made many different types of movies. Spielberg’s genre used to be seen as sci-fi with the coming out of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. However, people now think that is genre now is action or adventure, for example the Indiana Jones movies. Whatever people think his genre is now it’ll always be changing with the movies he is directing. Steven Spielberg is very famous for his films and his wide variety of film types.
Cinematography:
In the movie Jaws Steven Spielberg used lots of shots and views to create suspense. One example is in the very beginning scene we see a close up point of view of the shark. The shark is swimming through the ocean and the wildlife there. One movement during Jaws is a pan; Steven Spielberg used a pan to show all of the tourists on the beach during a scene. Steven Spielberg used a pan to show us the whole beach without having to be zoomed out very far.
Mise-en-scene:
During one scene of Jaws there are towns-men in a room with the police chief and the mayor. They are trying to come to an agreement and either close down the beaches or keep them open. In the background of this scene is a lot of angry and confused town-men, fishermen, also there is a chalk board with tallies on it. The deeper meaning to this scene his are the people in the room trying to close the beaches and destroy the small beach town they live in or will they keep it open and run the risk of more shark attacks. The lighting in this scene is high because it isn’t a dark scary scene, it’s just an informative scene that adds to the plot and adds wonder.
